The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) is a personality assessment tool that is used to understand the preferences and characteristics of individuals. It was developed by Katharine Briggs and Isabel Myers in the 1940s based on the work of Swiss psychologist Carl Jung. The MBTI identifies individuals as one of sixteen personality types based on four dichotomies: extraverted (E) vs. introverted (I), sensing (S) vs. intuitive (N), thinking (T) vs. feeling (F), and judging (J) vs. perceiving (P). The assessment is often used in career counseling, team building, and personal development to help individuals understand their strengths, weaknesses, and communication styles. However, it is important to note that some critics question the reliability and validity of the MBTI.
